Subject: REVIEW of 07/28 show in Los Angeles, CA

					    July 31, 1995
					    Sunnyvale, California

Okay, here's some information from someone in Northern California
(Silicon Valley) who went to the LA show with Kansas on July 28th...

Where:	Greek Theater in Los Angeles' Griffith Park
2700 North Vermont Avenue near Los Feliz Blvd.

When:	Friday, July 28, 1995; 7:30 - 11:00 pm PDT

Okay, we arrived at about 6 pm at Griffith's Park. The parking lines
weren't *too* long yet. Parking had opened around 5:30 and the gates
were to open at 6:30, one hour before the concert started.

We walked down from the picnic areas (where we parked in the dirt) to
the Greek Theater. People were mulling around, either enjoying the
late afternoon sun with tailgate parties or picnics and playing their
favorite Kansas and APP CDs on their boom boxes.

The gates finally opened at 6:36 pm. It was a "no re-entry" night, so
once you're in, you had to stay in, or else you were definitely "out" for
the night. The security was fairly heavy, much more so than at the smal-
ler venus, so I was told later.

We were detained upon entry because I had a camera and some cans of juice.
They said no cameras and no cans. I had to check in the camera in the
receptionist's office but hid the cans of juice. And we were in!!

Seating was not to open until 7 pm, so we walked around the theater
checking out the stage, restrooms, seats, bar 'n' grill, etc. At the
entry, the concessions booth had a *lot* of Kansas paraphernalia, but
only a t-shirt ($20), cap ($20), and sweatshirt ($65) for AP Live.
We were extremely disappointed to find that there was *NO* program!!!
Kansas had multiple t-shirts, a program, cap, etc.!

Shrugging our shoulders, we then went around looking for Steve Martin's
"Avenue" booth with the colored banner, but had no luck. I didn't know
what he looked like, so I thought it would be hopeless. I thought maybe
he had set up the booth outside the theater, so I went back outside to
look (don't ask how I got outside and back in again). While hanging
around outside, I saw someone standing around with their luggage and
"Air Canada" tags on the luggage, so I said, "Are you Steve?..." at the
same time he inquired, "Are you Wesley?...". So it was luck that we met.
Apparently, he arrived late on a plane and did not have a chance to pick
up his tickets, nor was able setup the booth for the Avenue in time.
I also met Rat/Robyn from the mailing list (rking@redbrick.com) and
her husband Dan.

By this time, the music had already been going on and we finally made
our way (back) inside. Our tickets were for the North Terrace, Row F,
seats 25, 27, and 29. I attended with my fiancée and a friend of
mine from the sixth grade, all of us pretty much APP fans who also
have Kansas albums. The seats weren't *too* bad, and we were able to
pick up the performers' perspiration with our trusty binocs.

The schedule for the evening was:

7:30 pm - 8:45 pm	Kansas
8:45 pm - 9:05 pm	intermission
9:05 pm - 11:00 pm	Alan Parsons (Project--)

Since I missed about 15-20 minutes of Kansas, I was able to make it
on time to hear most of the songs from the new album, "Freaks of Nature,"
as well as classics, "Dust In The Wind," "Fight Fire With Fire," and
"Carry On Wayward Son." The finale in the encore was "The Point of No
Return."

I met Steve during the intermission again, and he mentioned that some
of the seats next to him were empty in Section A, so we joined him there
for the remainder of the concert. The AP part of the concert was AWESOME.

The music came on at 9:07 pm, with an extended version of Sirius, and
concluded with *two* encores at around 10:55 pm. The band members
present this evening were:

Who Instrument(s)
--- -------------
Alan Parsons guitar, keyboards, background vocals
Ian Bairnson guitar, background vocals
Stuart Elliott drums (couldn't see if he did vocals)
Felix Krish bass, background vocals
Andrew Powell keyboards, synths == "orchestra"
Richard "Trix" Cottle	keyboards, synths, saxophone
Peter Beckett main vocals, background vocals
Chris Thompson main vocals, background vocals

The only name you might not recognize on the list is Peter's.
He joined the group recently, and does a pretty good job on
vocals, singing the "soft," Eric-type songs. Although Peter
does a great job on these tracks, no one has a voice like
Eric Woolfson's.

Overall, twenty great, classic tracks. You will notice an absence of
music from Vulture Culture though. There probably wasn't enough time
to fit EVERYTHING in. I thought that they would have done at least
"Days Are Numbers" though. If *I* had *my* way, I would have loved to
hear every single damn track that they've ever done! Anyhoo, I wanted
the night to go on and on and on, and for the music to never stop.

After the show was over, I was lucky enough to meet the band members and
have them sign a few things and get some photos with them. All were very
cordial (and tired from a great performance). I met Ian Bairnson first.
This fellow, as you all know, is a very talented individual. In addition
to his "regular job," he also likes to play jazz (he's performed with the
great Stanley Clarke before), and has also worked on an album with Kenny
Rogers, of country music fame. He was also the one playing the Spanish
guitar on Paseo De Gracia.

Next, we ran into Stuart Elliott. I asked him directly, "Is that with
one 't' or two 't's?!" As you know, this spelling problem has been
plaguing all the liner notes and even the discography. One moment it's
one, and the next, it's two! So now we know, it's two 'l's and two
't's for sure! He said he really didn't care how people spelled his
name as long as they got the pronunciation correct.

Finally, I met Him, the man himself. A very tall (~6'3") individual,
he seems to have a commanding presence around him. He is the archi-
tect, the man behind the plan, watching over everything. He was gra-
cious enough to chat for a few minutes while being pulled away every
few minutes by record executives and the like. Earlier, he was
spotted talking to David Pack (Ambrosia) and Al Stewart, who also at-
tended the concert. Alan mentioned that "Oh Life" with Pack on vocals
was briefly rehearsed, but never inserted into the program be*cause*
all the record execs were there, and they didn't want to jeopardize
anything. Politics here too I'm afraid.

I then came across Andrew Powell. Nice fellow, dangling some equipment
in one hand and a cigarette in another -- poor guy had to drop every-
thing to sign my MFSL APatPOPtBotAPP CD liner notes. The funny thing
is that *he* has never ever seen the MFSL CD version of that his before!
I also asked him about the rumors of a true and official release of the
LadyHawke soundtrack, and he said YES!! Watch out for it in September
from GNP Crescendo Records!!! This confirms the information from Buz
Banzai that I inserted in the discography.

By this time, their van was ready to pull off to the hotel, so I briefly
shook hands with the vocalists Peter and Chris, as well as the new
bassist Felix Krish. We finally left the Greek Theatre and headed home
at about 12:53 am.

All-in-all, an excellent night of music, and the pleasure of meeting
them all was an experience of a lifetime to remember. (Just wished
they had some darned program guides!!)
